Koonoo is a specialty coffee brand based in Dubai, built around simplicity and sophistication — a clean, modern take on premium brew that invites ease. Positioned at the intersection of craft and convenience, Koonoo makes specialty coffee “easy to acquire, easy to brew, easy to enjoy — anywhere. Koonoo received funding on Shark Tank Dubai in the year 2024.

Design challenge

As one of the first brands to introduce portable drip coffee to the UAE market, Koonoo needed to carve a distinct multi-lingual identity (Arabic and English) in an already saturated coffee landscape—both on retail shelves and digital platforms. The core challenge was twofold: to visually differentiate the brand while also educating consumers about a new, simplified brewing method. We had to communicate ease without compromising on Koonoo’s premium quality, building a brand that embodies both specialty coffee and everyday convenience.

Design Approach

Our research across retail aisles and digital platforms revealed a sea of sameness- coffee imagery dominated by browns, beans, and warm, earthy tones. To position Koonoo as a fresh, modern take on specialty coffee, we stripped away the fluff clichés and leaned into clarity. The visual language is minimal and clean, with generous white space and bold accent colors to differentiate each flavor. Icons play a central role; communicating the unique drip filter format and brewing process with simplicity and precision. The result: a distinctive, premium brand that is not just scalable but also makes specialty coffee feel refreshingly easy and approachable.
